More about Vision Correction at Whitten Laser Eye
Dr. Whitten’s individualized treatments for patients include the use of the latest in LASIK, Cataract and Reading Vision technology. Because of his reputation and experience, he often has access to new technology before other doctors in his 3 office locations.
Before LASIK surgery, Dr. Whitten conducts an initial consultation with his patients to assess their vision concerns and answer any questions. At this time, he will also perform diagnostic tests on the eyes in order to measure the prescription and other eye measurements. From this information, Dr. Whitten creates a procedure that is “customized” to each patient.
Customized LASIK, using groundbreaking wavefront technology, addresses not only lower-order aberrations (factors that lead to nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism), but also higher-order aberrations that contribute to poor night vision and light sensitivity.
To begin the LASIK procedure Dr. Whitten creates a small flap in the eye’s cornea. He then gently lifts the flap away from the eye and uses an excimer laser to reshape the cornea so that it focuses light on the retina with accuracy, for clearer vision. Once the cornea is reshaped, Dr. Whitten replaces the corneal flap, which immediately begins the eye’s natural healing process as it re-adheres itself to the eye.
The vast majority of Dr. Whitten’s patients have reported an immediate improvement in vison after having LASIK surgery. They are usually able to see the very next day without the use of glasses or contacts.
For the Raindrop reading vision correction procedure, Dr. Whitten also creates a small flap in the eye’s cornea. Again, he gently lifts the flap and places the Raindrop inlay , then replaces the flap for the healing to begin immediately. Smaller and thinner than a contact lens, the inlay is a mini-ring with an opening in the center. By using this pinhole effect, the inlay focuses light coming into your eye. This restores near vision while maintaining your distance vision. The corneal inlay is an in-office procedure and generally performed on one eye. It takes about 15 minutes and most people can read better within a day.
