LASIK in St. Petersburg and Clearwater

LASIK eye surgery revolutionized the way people with refractive errors can view the world. You don’t have to be burdened by glasses or contact lenses anymore. Laser vision correction with LASIK addresses farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism caused by an imperfect curvature of the cornea. The procedure typically takes less than 10 minutes per eye, and many patients have 20/20 eyesight or better after LASIK.

The LASIK procedure uses a highly specialized laser to correct the shape of your cornea. One of our skilled Ophthalmologists creates a flap of tissue in the surface layer of your eye’s cornea, called the epithelium. This flap is folded back, the laser is used to correct the cornea’s curvature and then the flap is put back in place. Most patients achieve optimal vision. St. Michael’s Eye & Laser Institute offers LASIK and EPI-LASIK, which creates a thinner flap than traditional LASIK using a different tool and technique to separate the epithelial tissues.

Recovery from LASIK is typically fast. You will likely notice improved vision immediately after your LASIK eye surgery, but your eyes need time to adjust and heal, especially the first 24 hours when eyesight is blurry or foggy. Final LASIK results will materialize in the coming months, but patients can often drive within a week after the procedure.

LASIK can free you from the everyday demands of wearing glasses and contact lenses. You can work out, swim and greet your day without a second thought. Our Ophthalmologists in St. Petersburg and Clearwater can discuss your LASIK options during your eye exam. Learn more by calling (866) 775-8734.
