Over the course of his career, Dr. Burns has earned a reputation as an excellent LASIK surgeon. As a testament to his surgical skill, he is often chosen by patients with vision-intensive occupations, such as firefighters, policemen and physicians. Dr. Burns has also performed LASIK on many celebrities, including Robin Facer, a former “Mrs. California.” He frequently appears on national radio and television shows to educate people about LASIK and the results that can be achieved through this procedure.
Sophisticated Technology & Personalized Treatment
Dr. Richard Burns is committed to providing only the best, safest treatments for his LASIK patients. This is why his practice is equipped with leading-edge laser technologies, including the holmium laser. In fact, Dr. Burns was one of the first surgeons in the nation to correct farsightedness with the holmium laser.
In order to achieve outstanding LASIK results, Dr. Burns offers both Wavefront CustomVue and IntraLase technologies for all-laser LASIK. He also uses advanced surgical technologies when performing cataract surgery. At his offices, patients are offered the newest intraocular lens implants (IOLs), such as ReSTOR lenses that provide clear vision at various distances. In addition to helping cataracts patients, ReSTOR IOLs can also be used to improve the vision of individuals suffering from presbyopia — a condition that causes blurred near vision in those “over 40.”
Dr. Burns believes that optimum LASIK results are achieved through a combination of leading-edge technology, superb surgical skill and a personalized patient-physician relationship. This is why Dr. Burns personally performs all surgical evaluations and monitors the progress of his patients from their first consultation to the last follow-up meeting. The monitoring process includes a phone call to his LASIK patients the night after the procedure to ensure that they are recovering safely.

CustomVue and All-Laser LASIK
The surgical facilities of Advanced Cataract Surgery & LASIK are equipped with some of the best diagnostic and surgical instruments available. Dr. Burns performs all LASIK procedures with the VISX Star S4 CustomVue excimer laser platform, This leading-edge laser eye surgery system incorporates CustomVue technology, an advanced diagnostic technology, to create a precise map of each eye. This map is similar to a 3D fingerprint impression; Dr. Burns uses it to customize the excimer laser treatment according to the unique vision correction needs of each patient. Dr. Burns’ surgical suite also features a special laser (IntraLase) for the creation of the corneal flap. The IntraLase technology allows Dr. Burns to perform completely bladeless LASIK procedures (also known as all-laser LASIK). Patients who are not candidates for all-laser LASIK may be eligible for variations of LASIK, such as LASEK and PRK.
Cataract Surgery with Dr. Burns
In addition to performing advanced forms of laser eye surgery, Dr. Burns also specializes in cataract surgery. He is one of the only surgeons in the area who offers ReSTOR intraocular lenses and phakic implants. ReSTOR lenses are implanted in the eye during cataract surgery, and they help achieve clear vision at both near and far distances. Phakic IOLs are also implanted in the eye for the purpose of enhancing the patient’s visual acuity. However, during the phakic IOLs procedure Dr. Burns does not remove the patient’s natural lenses (which are removed during cataract surgery). Prior to performing any procedure, Dr. Burns thoroughly explains all treatment choices and helps each patient select the procedure that best fits their lifestyle.
As a comprehensive ophthalmology practice, Advanced Cataract Surgery and LASIK also offers glaucoma therapy, retinal disease treatments and facial cosmetic procedures, such as BOTOX and blepharoplasty.
