More About LASIK Vision Correction With the Harman Eye Clinic

At the Harman Eye Clinic, patients find that the surgeons use only the most sophisticated technology available, for personally tailored vision correction treatment. The Seattle LASIK surgeons use IntraLase femtosecond and VISX CustomVue wavefront-guided laser technology to provide customized, extremely precise visual outcomes.

Before beginning LASIK surgery, Drs. Ballon, Wietharn and Bajenova utilize wavefront diagnostic technology to create a map of the eye’s topography, including “higher order aberrations” (nearly imperceptible vision errors). Using the gathered information, the laser eye surgeons calibrate the excimer laser used to re-contour the curvature of the cornea during LASIK.

The ophthalmologist begins the laser vision correction surgical treatment by making a miniscule flap in the cornea. (During bladeless, all-laser LASIK, the surgeon uses the IntraLase femtosecond laser for this step.) After the corneal flap has been gently lifted back to reveal the corneal tissue below, the surgeon uses the excimer laser to remove microscopic particles of corneal tissue, thus re-shaping the curvature of the cornea. This action corrects the refractive error causing nearsightedness, farsightedness and / or astigmatism. Once the laser eye surgeon is content with the newly shaped cornea, the corneal flap is placed back in its initial position, where it naturally re-seals itself to the eye, without the need for stitches.

The Harman Eye Clinic patients generally remark that the LASIK procedure was painless. Most patients notice an improvement in their vision within one or two days of surgery. Most of the time, individuals who have undergone LASIK can greatly reduce or completely forgo their daily dependence on prescription eyewear. In addition, over 99 percent of LASIK patients achieve 20/20 vision.
