Each staff member at Kornmehl Laser Eye Associates has been hand-picked and personally trained by Dr. Kornmehl. Each patient is provided a thorough examination by Dr. Kornmehl to determine whether he or she qualifies for surgery and, if so, the best surgical option.
For LASIK surgery, Dr. Kornmehl uses the IntraLase method with an iFS femtosecond laser. This allows him to reshape the cornea without a blade, which dramatically decreases complication rates. For the ultimate accuracy, Dr. Kornmehl utilizes iDesign Refractive Studio. This wavefront-guided custom LASIK system provides a highly accurate measure of the corneal curvature. This “corneal map” is used by the laser system to create an individualized ablation profile for each patient. In addition to LASIK, Dr. Kornmehl also offers PRK and EPI-LASIK for laser vision correction.
To correct presbyopia, he offers CK surgery (conductive keratoplasty). Although Dr. Kornmehl is at the forefront of new laser and surgical technology, he is conservative in his approach to refractive surgery. A high percentage of patients do not qualify for surgery and are recommended by Dr. Kornmehl not to undergo a procedure.
Dr. Kornmehl offers two advanced treatments for people who suffer from evaporative dry eye, a condition caused by a blockage of the meibomian glands in the eyelid. The LipiFlow Thermal Pulsation system uses revolutionary technology — a combination of localized heat and recurrent pressure that is applied to the eyelid — to unblock these glands, so they secrete the proper natural oils that stop tears from evaporating. LipiFlow works to restore the eye’s natural tearing process, alleviating the discomfort of chronic evaporative dry eye. OptiLight is an upgrade to Lumenis’s Optima IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment that fits snugly around the eye to target abnormal blood vessels that lead to meibomian gland blockage without risking damage to the eyelashes or eyebrows. This technology earned FDA approval after rigorous clinical trials.
