More About Vision Correction at Bowden Eye Associates
Dr. Bowden utilizes the most advanced technology for customized vision correction surgery. The Bowden Eye & Associates’ state-of-the-art practice is furnished with IntraLase laser technology to generate highly personalized vision correction results.
Before beginning all-laser LASIK surgery, Dr. Bowden uses wavefront computer-guided technology to diagnose each eye’s unique refractive error, including extremely subtle vision errors called “higher-order aberrations.” The laser eye surgeon uses this diagnostic information to calibrate the excimer laser used to correct the shape of the cornea.
To start the LASIK procedure, Dr. Bowden utilizes the advanced IntraLase laser to create a custom flap in the cornea. (In contrast to traditional LASIK techniques which use a surgical blade called a microkeratome to generate the corneal flap, utilizing the IntraLase laser to create the corneal flap allows for greater precision and better results.) Dr. Bowden next uses the excimer laser to reshape the underlying corneal tissue, correcting the refractive error causing nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism. Once the eye surgeon is satisfied with the newly contoured cornea, the flap is placed back on the cornea, where it fits like a man-hole cover. The corneal flap will heal on its own, without the need for stitches.
Dr. Bowden’s Jacksonville LASIK patients are happy to discover that the procedure is not painful, and that it typically produces improved vision within 24 to 48 hours following surgery. Often, LASIK patients no longer need to depend on daily eyewear to see clearly, and more than 99 percent of those who have had LASIK surgery with Dr. Bowden achieve 20/20 vision — or better.
