Serving patients seeking laser-assisted cataract surgery in Beaver County and the surrounding area

The Zambelli Cataract and Laser Eye Institute team has decades of experience helping patients achieve clearer vision after cataracts. Led by Drs. George and Alison Zambelli, the Institute is the first and only ophthalmology practice in Beaver County to offer laser-assisted cataract surgery.

Cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure in the world. And while traditional cataract surgery delivers safe, successful results, the use of laser technology enhances the safety and precision of the procedure. In laser cataract surgery, an advanced laser replaces the use of handheld surgical tools used in traditional cataract surgery. The Zambelli Cataract and Laser Eye Institute uses the CATALYS Precision Laser System, a sophisticated laser system that provides patients a highly customized, more accurate and gentle treatment. Drs. George and Alison Zambelli offer several premium intraocular lens implants (IOLs), to fit the unique eye specifications of each patient’s eye.

“Laser Cataract Surgery was the right choice for my mother.” – George R. Zambelli, MD

In addition to enhancing vision through laser-assisted cataract surgery, Drs. George and Alison Zambelli offer a range of eye care services including glaucoma treatment, diabetic retinopathy, floater laser treatment, corneal cross-linking, corneal transplants, and laser vision correction options such as LASIK. The Zambelli Cataract and Laser Eye Institute has performed over 60,000 cataract-related procedures.

Drs. George and Alison Zambelli are committed to providing patients in Beaver County and the Pittsburgh area with the most advanced procedures and compassionate patient care. Schedule a consultation with the Zambelli Cataract and Laser Eye Institute by calling (724) 728-5000 or (800) 44-LASER.

More about Zambelli Cataract and Laser Eye Institute

Dr. George R. Zambelli, Jr. received his bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed a rotating medical internship at Saint Louis University Hospitals and an ophthalmology residency at Ohio State University Hospitals. The board-certified ophthalmologist has decades of experience performing cataract surgery, including laser assisted cataract surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. Zambelli has been at the forefront of cataract surgery advances. During his residency, he trained in phacoemulsification when only 1 percent of ophthalmologists were performing phacoemulsification cataract surgery. (Phacoemulsification is a modern technique that breaks up the clouded lens via high-frequency ultrasound and smaller incisions, promoting faster healing and less risk of surgery complications.) The respected eye surgeon is also trained in SLT glaucoma surgery and certified in the use of the VISX and Nidek excimer lasers.

Dr. Zambelli is respected by his peers and has traveled all over the world to provide training to other surgeons, including to Beijing, China, where he trained approximately 100 surgeons on how to use the first ultrasonic phacoemulsification machine introduced in China; and to Honduras where, along with his daughter, Dr. Alison Zambelli, he provided cataract surgery and other eye care services to Honduran patients and trained other eye surgeons on the latest cataract surgery and techniques.

Currently, Dr. Zambelli travels throughout the tri-state area to meet with community groups and lecture on various eye diseases and eye care. He also regularly participates in local health fairs that offer free eye screenings for families throughout Beaver County. Dr. Zambelli is a member of numerous prestigious professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Alison M. Zambelli graduated from Boston College and earned her medical degree at the Temple University School of Medicine. She completed a medical internship at the Crozer Chester Medical Center, an ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and a fellowship in cornea, external disease and anterior segment surgery at Tufts Medical Center. The laser cataract surgeon also specializes in cornea and ocular surface, glaucoma laser surgery, refractive surgery such as LASIK, floater laser treatment, corneal transplants, and corneal cross-linking. Dr. Zambelli has published numerous papers and was involved in the investigational studies prior to the FDA approval of corneal collagen cross-linking. She belongs to several prestigious professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Zambelli is passionate about giving back to her community and other populations that are in need of quality eye care and education. She travels extensively throughout the tri-state area, giving lectures about common eye conditions and meeting with local groups to discuss eye health. She participates in local health fairs, offering free eye screenings to families in Beaver County. Dr. Zambelli has also traveled to Honduras with her father, where she performed cataract surgery and other general eye care services for local patients in this underserved area of the world.
