Myrtle Beach Ophthalmologist and Cataract Surgeon
Neil B. Griffin, M.D., is an ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and laser vision correction at Griffin Eye Center. He aims to preserve and restore as much of his patients’ vision as possible through innovative techniques and the latest advancements in cataract technology.
He was the first ophthalmologist in the Myrtle Beach area to use the Alcon PanOptix®, Vivity Lens® and Johnson & Johnson TECNIS Eyhance® IOLs. He was also the first — and remains the only — ophthalmologist in the region to offer the RXSight® Light Adjustable Lens for cataract surgery. Furthermore, he was one of the first doctors in the United States to utilize the ZEPTO™ Capsulotomy System during cataract surgery.
Cataract Surgery in Myrtle Beach
A cataract is a gradual haziness that forms on the lens of the eye, which causes vision impairment in nearly half of Americans by the time they are 75. While most cataracts cannot be prevented, they can be treated surgically to help affected patients regain clear vision.
During cataract surgery, Dr. Griffin removes the natural, cloudy lens from the eye and carefully inserts an intraocular lens (IOL) implant as a replacement. The entire procedure is safe and can usually be completed in under an hour.
Ahead of the surgery, Dr. Griffin will review the various types of IOLs with the patient to determine which one is best suited to the patient’s needs. Griffin Eye Center offers more lens types than most other eye centers in Myrtle Beach, and so patients can be confident that Dr. Griffin will be able to recommend the most appropriate lens for lifelong clear vision.
In addition to cataract surgery, Dr. Griffin and the team at his Myrtle Beach practice perform laser vision correction, treat astigmatism and address debilitating corneal conditions. For more information about any of these procedures, please call the Griffin Eye Center at (843) 449-6414.
