More about Cataract Surgery at Cornerstone Eye Associates

Cataract surgery is a short and virtually painless procedure for the patient. A small incision is created in the eye to access the capsule that holds the cataractous lens. The capsule is opened with a tiny circular tear. Ultrasonic energy is used to fragment the lens into small pieces. Then, the pieces are gently suctioned from the eye. An artificial lens implant is inserted through the original incision and carefully positioned. Finally, the incision is closed with a small stitch (or it may heal by itself). Patients can return home shortly after surgery and typically recover within a few days.
