Phillip C. Hoopes, MD, MBA, Phillip C. Hoopes, Jr., MD, Michael J. Bradley, MD and Majid Moshirfar, MD, are board-certified ophthalmologists who comprise the surgical team of Hoopes Vision in Salt Lake City. Hoopes Vision is a state-of-the-art vision correction practice providing patients with the full range of refractive surgery procedures, including cataract surgery. Led by nationally renowned eye surgeon Dr. Phillip C. Hoopes, the ophthalmologists of Hoopes Vision boast nearly 65 years of combined experience and have successfully performed more than 90,000 vision correction procedures. Hoopes Vision is committed to providing patients with the latest laser vision correction technologies and treatments.

The eye surgeons of Hoopes Vision offer the latest micro-incision cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implants (IOLs). In fact, Dr. Phillip C. Hoopes was among the first eye surgeons in the country to perform “no-stitch” cataract surgery. During the procedure a tiny, self-sealing incision is created on the surface of the eye under topical anesthesia. Next, the cataract-diseased lens is extracted from the eye through an advanced technique called phacoemulsification. Once the eye is free of cataracts, an artificial implant (IOL) is inserted to provide clear vision at various distances following cataract surgery. Hoopes Vision offers the most sophisticated IOLs, including the multifocal AcrySof ReSTOR, Tecnis Multifocal and the “accommodating” Crystalens.

Hoopes Vision is a 20,000 square-foot facility featuring its own freestanding ambulatory surgery and research centers. Its two operating rooms are equipped with leading-edge diagnostic and surgical equipment. Founded by Dr. Phillip C. Hoopes, named one of “America’s Top Ophthalmologists” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America several years in a row, Hoopes Vision was named one of the top 50 laser vision centers in the U.S. by Goldline Research.

What Do Patients Say About the Eye Surgeons of Hoopes Vision?

“I had been diagnosed with cataracts several years ago but could still see well enough to function and do most things I needed to do. It wasn’t until late summer that I began to notice quite a bit of glare at night while driving and poor distance vision during the day…

After talking to friends and associates about where to go, several leading and well known facilities and surgeons kept coming up. I have known many colleagues in the radio and television industry who have had and needed eye surgery. Through this, I had certainly heard about Hoopes Vision…. I had also been impressed to learn that legendary national newscaster and icon, David Brinkley, had chosen Hoopes Vision for his surgery…

The day of the exam arrived and as I walked off the elevator into the office, I knew I had chosen some place very special. I don’t think I have ever been in a professional office where warmth, friendliness, and caring were more noticeable and apparent…That is something you rarely see nowadays…I was really impressed by the thoroughness and professionalism of Dr. Phillip Hoopes, Jr…

The option that sounded best for me was to select one of the newer, high-tech implants that could also correct my astigmatism and give me an opportunity to see well without glasses…The surgery took less than 10 minutes and was totally painless.

It has now been over a month since my surgery. How can I see? It’s great, with near 20/20 vision in the distance and even better up-close! I can read the newspaper and watch TV without glasses or contacts for the first time in 50 years, and the fog and glare are gone!” —Dick Nourse, Former, Award-Winning SLC News Anchor

“I just drove my husband to Vernal and back to attend my 50th high school class reunion. That doesn’t seem so unusual, but this time it was with my naked eyes and a pair of dollar sun glasses…..and I did all the driving!! For 60 years we have traveled that road and I have worn either thick glasses or contacts. So, it was quite momentous to stay at the wheel and observe the details on the mountains and the leaves on the trees. It is especially wonderful to read the road signs again. The whole experience at your clinic is like no other. The staff has been informative and personable. Dr. Hoopes is kind and thorough and efficient.” —Dawn Leahy

“What I first perceived as an allergic reaction to a new dog, turned out to be cataracts in both eyes. I never expected someone as young as me to ever need cataract surgery. I am in my 30’s and my eyesight started to become very cloudy and blurry, like everything had a yellow, hazy film to it. I was referred to Dr. Hoopes by an optometrist in the area, and fortunately, Dr. Hoopes was able to correct my problem easily with the ReSTOR® lens. My eyesight is now 20/20 in the distance, and my near vision is equally as impressive. I can read the equivalent of newspaper print again, and I won’t need glasses. It helped me regain a normal life.

I am thankful that a technology like this exists. The surgery was quick and the recovery was easy. I would recommend the ReSTOR® lens to anybody that may be offered this great procedure. I give my thanks to your great staff as well. They treated me as if I was family.” —David Shuck, Ft. Collins, CO
