Each and every patient of Dr. Shammas receives a thorough examination prior to treatment. Aiding him in these efforts are the talented staff members of Laser Eye Center. With their assistance, Dr. Shammas uses state-of-the-art equipment to determine which vision correction procedure should be performed. For patients considering custom LASIK he uses wavefront technology to create a map of the eyes, which shows the curvature of the cornea — including all of its imperfections.
For patients who are not good candidates for LASIK, Dr. Shammas may perform another procedure such as PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) or lens implantation with implantable contact lenses (ICLs), also called phakic IOLs. Dr. Shammas performs this procedure with Verisyse or another ICL, depending on the eye care needs of the patient.
