More About Vision Correction at Tygervalley Eye and Laser Centre
Dr. Krüger uses only the most modern and reliable technology for customized laser vision correction surgery. Tygervalley Eye and Laser Centre is equipped with the VISX CustomVue laser platform, with wavefront-guided diagnostics, to generate highly personalized visual results from LASIK surgery.
Before starting the LASIK procedure, Dr. Krüger uses wavefront imaging technology to capture the eye’s unique refractive errors, including extremely subtle vision problems called “higher-order aberrations.” He uses this information to calibrate the excimer laser used to re-shape the curvature of the cornea, thereby correcting the refractive error.
Dr. Krüger starts the LASIK procedure by making a small flap in the surface of the cornea, using either a microkeratome (manual surgical blade) or, in all-laser iLASIK, a femtosecond laser. After carefully pulling back the corneal flap, Dr. Krüger uses the calibrated excimer laser to remove microscopic particles of corneal tissue. This process alters the curvature of the cornea to improve the refractive error causing nearsightedness, farsightedness and / or astigmatism. Once Dr. Krüger is satisfied with the newly shaped cornea, he repositions the flap back in its original place, where it naturally re-bonds to the eye without the need for sutures.
Dr. Krüger’s Cape Town LASIK patients are pleased to find that the procedure is not painful, thanks to the use of topical anesthetic eye drops, which are administered before the start of the procedure. They are also happy to discover a dramatic improvement in their vision within about 24 to 48 hours after surgery. In many cases, Dr. Krüger’s patients no longer need to depend on spectacles or contact lenses to see clearly. In fact, more than 99 percent of individuals achieve 20/20 vision or better after LASIK surgery.
