Cataract Surgeons Hobart – Serving patients seeking cataract surgery in Hobart and the surrounding area

Dr. Simran Mangat, Dr. George Smith and Dr. Richard Sheard are highly trained and internationally recognized ophthalmologists in Hobart, Tasmania. The doctors demonstrate excellence in a range of ophthalmic procedures, including cataract surgery, general ophthalmic surgery, plastic ophthalmic surgery and corneal surgery, including corneal grafting (corneal transplant). Over the course of their careers, they have performed tens of thousands of cataract surgeries. Thanks to extensive training and experience, Dr. Mangat, Dr. Smith and Dr. Sheard are able to provide Hobart eye care patients with exceptional vision correction results.

The team at Tasmania Eye Clinics performs advanced “no-stitch, micro-incision” cataract surgery, as well as laser cataract surgery when medically appropriate. The Hobart eye surgeons begin cataract surgery by creating a small, self-sealing incision in the part of the eye that encapsulates the natural crystalline lens. They then use ultrasound energy to break up the eye’s cataractous (cloudy) lens before gently flushing or suctioning out the cataract-diseased pieces. The surgeons then replace the cloudy lens with an intraocular lens implant (IOL) to restore clear vision after surgery. In addition to traditional IOL options, Tasmanian Eye Clinics also offers a variety of premium IOL choices, including multifocal lens options that allow patients to see clearly at multiple distances, as well as astigmatism-correcting toric IOLs.

Cataract surgery is performed under topical anesthesia, so the patient does not experience any pain and is completely comfortable throughout the entire surgical procedure. Patients who undergo cataract surgery in Hobart with our team achieve improved vision at several distances and, in many cases, are able to decrease their dependence on daily prescription eyewear drastically.

In addition to cataract surgery, general and plastic ophthalmic surgery, and corneal surgery, Tasmanian Eye Clinics also offers general eye care services, glaucoma management, management of diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration treatment.

To schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Mangat, Dr. Smith or Dr. Sheard to learn more about your vision correction options, please contact Tasmanian Eye Clinics by calling (036) 230-7444 today.
