Life Changing Cataract Surgery
Who Knew Cataract Surgery was a Good Thing
Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery automates the most challenging steps of cataract surgery resulting in a significantly higher degree of precision. With traditional cataract surgery, the small incisions are made manually with a blade. But the LenSx® Laser automates steps such as performing corneal incisions, opening the capsule, and softening as well as breaking up the cataract, resulting in a significantly higher degree of precision than possible in the past. The LenSx is a femtosecond laser that emits cool pulses, and also has an advanced imaging system that provides both real-time video and three-dimensional visualization, enabling the surgeons to custom design a treatment plan that is individually tailored for each patient.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery
What is a LenSx® laser?
The Alcon LenSx® is a femtosecond laser, which emits cool pulses to perform customized laser surgery to exacting specifications that are generally not attainable with traditional eye surgery. For nearly a decade, femtosecond lasers have helped surgeons perform LASIK with unparalleled precision and accuracy. Designed to revolutionize key steps in the cataract procedure, the LenSx® laser now allows surgeons to perform advanced cataract surgery that is more precise, predictable and reproducible.
Why did The Eye Associates begin utilizing the LenSx® laser for cataract surgery?
The Eye Associates has always been a leading innovator in cataract surgery, and we pride ourselves on having the most surgically advanced technology. When this advanced technology is paired with our seasoned surgical team, it translates to greater precision and outstanding outcomes.
What does the LenSx® laser do?
The Alcon LenSx® laser automates the most challenging steps of traditional cataract surgery, such as performing corneal incisions, opening the capsule, and softening and breaking up the cataract. Traditional cataract surgery involves the creation of several small incisions made manually with a blade. With LenSx® laser, the surgeon can create those incisions with the laser, resulting in a significantly higher degree of precision. Also, the advanced imaging systems provide both real-time video as well as three-dimensional visualization, enabling the surgeons to customize a treatment plan that is individually tailored for your eyes.
More About Cataracts
The Eye Associates offers the latest surgical techniques and utilizes state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat cataracts (the clouding of the eye’s natural lens). The surgeons of The Eye Associates use the “no-stitch” cataract surgery technique. This method involves a small incision in the eye, which is naturally sealed by the eye’s own pressure, eliminating the need for sutures. The incision is used to access the clouded lens (the cataract), which is broken up and extracted through a process known as phacoemulsification, using the advanced technology of the Infiniti Vision System. Once removed, the cloudy natural lens is replaced with an intraocular lens implant (IOL). The Eye Associates offers a basic monofocal lens, as well as the high-tech lifestyle lens implants, such as the AcrySof IQ ReSTOR Multifocal, AcrySof IQ ReSTOR Multifocal Toric, TECNIS Multifocal, TECNIS Symfony Multifocal, TECNIS Symfony Multifocal Toric, Crystalens, Trulign Toric, TECNIS Toric and AcrySof IQ Toric IOL. Most high-tech IOLs allow patients to change focus from near to intermediate to distance vision, thereby allowing patients to be less dependent on glasses. In addition, The Eye Associates offers LASIK, Clear Lens Replacement (CLR) surgery and the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay for patients wishing to be glasses-free but are not yet ready for cataract surgery. Call (800) 941-8114 for FREE CLR or LASIK screenings.
